Vanwege haar multifunctionaliteit is Rotterdam Ahoy al sinds 1971 de meest unieke evenementenaccommodatie in Nederland. In de iconische Ahoy Arena vinden voornamelijk grote concerten, sporttoernooien en familieshows plaats. De Beurs- & Evenementenhallen, die variëren tussen de 3.000 m2 en 30.000 m2, worden gebruikt voor onder meer beurzen en bedrijfsfeesten. Sinds 2020 is Ahoy een podium rijker, genaamd RTM Stage. RTM Stage is niet alleen het grootste auditorium én de grootste theaterzaal van Nederland (max. capaciteit van 2.816 stoelen en een XL seated variant met 4.400 stoelen), maar wordt, wanneer de stoelen compleet verwijderd zijn, omgetoverd tot concertzaal met een capaciteit van 7.842 personen. RTM Stage biedt daarmee de ideale ruimte en faciliteiten voor concerten, comedy, plenaire sessies en theaterproducties.
In 2020 openden de deuren van het Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre. Dit nieuwe congrescentrum beschikt over 35 vergaderruimtes, ruime foyers en prachtige expositieruimtes. Het Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre is met het grootste auditorium van Nederland (RTM Stage) en 35 breakout rooms de ideale plek voor kleine en grote congressen. Of het nu een groot internationaal congres is of een zakelijke meeting in een intiemere setting, het RACC is eenvoudig in te richten voor elke setting.

The Municipality of Rotterdam, Rotterdam Ahoy and Hago Nederland are joining forces: a start will be made on the realization of a so-called urban water buffer (UWB), a system in which rainwater is collected, retained, filtered, stored and reused. For Ahoy, it is the next step in a series of sustainability initiatives.
Drinking water is cheap but fresh water is scarce. At the same time, most rainwater, which is originally clean, goes through the sewage system to surface water or to a sewage treatment plant (WWTP). With the latter you burden an WWTP with relatively clean water, making it less profitable. Reason enough for the three parties to start this project. Paved surfaces are disconnected from the sewer and the rainwater goes to the water buffer.
How the urban water buffer works
The Gooilandsingel is being redeveloped as part of the Hart van Zuid area development. The street changes into a green city boulevard especially for pedestrians and cyclists. Under the Gooilandsingel, a so-called crate storage facility is being made. The water from the roof of the Zuidplein shopping center and the Gooilandsingel is collected here. In total, this concerns an area of 4.8 hectares. With a heavy rain shower of 50 mm, this produces 2,400 cubic meters of water. After the water has been collected in the crate shed, it is purified with plants and then stored deep in the subsoil after which it can be reused. It is expected that 20,000 cubic meters of the collected water can be reused annually, a great result!
Rotterdams WeerWoord is the initiator and main financier of the urban water buffer in Hart van Zuid. This municipal program was established together with the water boards in Rotterdam and Evides. Climate change increases the risk of nuisance and damage from heavy precipitation, heat, drought and flooding. The Rotterdam Weather Word is jointly preparing the city for a more extreme climate. The city is being made weatherproof for, with and by the people of Rotterdam.
Savings
Ahoy wants to use the water from the water buffer for window cleaning and cleaning of floors; which will be carried out by Hago, its cleaning partner. At the new Pathé cinema (completion 2024), the water will be used for toilet flushing. This saves a total of 15,000 cubic meters of drinking water every year. If the bubble is large enough, the water can even be used to flush the Zuiderpark in the summer when the water quality threatens to deteriorate.
Sustainable future
Investing in sustainability initiatives is a high priority at Ahoy. Jolanda Jansen, General Manager says: “It is great to see how we are gradually becoming more sustainable on various fronts. Naturally, the construction of our brand new Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center offered the opportunity to do things in a smarter and more sustainable way, but we also started working company-wide, for example in the field of catering and waste processing.” All sustainability initiatives of the event accommodation are listed on www.ahoy.nl/duurzaam .
22 Maart is Wereldwaterdag. Gemeente Rotterdam, Rotterdam Ahoy en Hago Nederland slaan de handen ineen: er wordt gestart met de realisatie van een zogenaamde urban waterbuffer (UWB), een systeem waarbij regenwater wordt opgevangen, vastgehouden, gefilterd, opgeslagen en hergebruikt. Het is voor Ahoy een volgende stap in een reeks aan duurzaamheidsinitiatieven.
Drinkwater is goedkoop maar zoet water is schaars. Tegelijkertijd gaat het meeste regenwater, wat van oorsprong schoon is, via het riool naar een oppervlaktewater of naar een rioolwaterzuiveringsinstallatie (RWZI). Met dat laatste belast je een RWZI met relatief schoon water waardoor deze minder rendabel is. Reden genoeg voor de drie partijen om dit project te starten. Er worden verharde oppervlaktes afgekoppeld van het riool en het regenwater gaat naar de waterbuffer.
De werking van de urban waterbuffer
Als onderdeel van de gebiedsontwikkeling Hart van Zuid wordt de Gooilandsingel opnieuw ingericht. De straat verandert in een groene stadsboulevard speciaal voor voetgangers en fietsers. Onder de Gooilandsingel wordt een zogenaamde krattenberging gemaakt. Hierin wordt het water van het dak van Winkelcentrum Zuidplein en de Gooilandsingel opgevangen. In totaal gaat het om een oppervlakte van 4,8 hectare. Bij een forse regenbui van 50 mm levert dat 2.400 kuub water op. Nadat het water is opgevangen in de krattenberging wordt het gezuiverd met planten en vervolgens diep in de ondergrond opgeslagen waarna het kan worden hergebruikt. Van het opgevangen water kan er naar verwachting jaarlijks 20.000 kuub hergebruikt worden, een mooi resultaat!
Rotterdams WeerWoord is de initiatiefnemer en hoofd financierder van de urban waterbuffer in Hart van Zuid. Dit gemeentelijke programma is samen met de waterschappen in Rotterdam en Evides opgericht. Door klimaatverandering neemt de kans op overlast en schade door hevige neerslag, hitte, droogte en overstromingen toe. Het Rotterdams WeerWoord bereidt samen de stad voor op een extremer klimaat. Voor, met én door de Rotterdammers wordt de stad weerbestendig gemaakt.
Besparing
Ahoy wil het water uit de waterbuffer gebruiken voor glasbewassing en schoonmaak van vloeren; dat uitgevoerd zal worden door Hago, haar partner op het gebied van schoonmaak. Bij de nieuwe Pathé bioscoop (oplevering 2024) zal het water worden gebruikt voor de toiletspoeling. Daarmee wordt in totaal jaarlijks 15.000 kuub drinkwater bespaard. Als de bel groot genoeg is kan het water zelfs worden gebruikt om het Zuiderpark door te spoelen in de zomer als de waterkwaliteit daar achteruit dreigt te gaan.
Duurzame toekomst
Investeren in duurzaamheidsinitiatieven heeft hoge prioriteit bij Ahoy. Jolanda Jansen, Algemeen Directeur zegt: “Het is mooi om te zien hoe we stap voor stap steeds duurzamer worden op diverse fronten. Uiteraard bood de bouw van ons gloednieuwe Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre de mogelijkheid om zaken slimmer en duurzamer aan te pakken, maar ook bedrijfsbreed zijn we aan de slag gegaan, bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van horeca en afvalverwerking.” Op www.ahoy.nl/duurzaamheid staan alle duurzaamheidsinitiatieven van de evenementenaccommodatie genoemd.

Area development
The construction of the hotel is part of the Hart van Zuid area development, the area around Ahoy and Zuidplein metro station. A special place, located at the Zuiderpark, the largest city park in the Netherlands. As part of this project, the Exhibition & Evenementenhallen of Ahoy were modernized in 2018 and the new Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center and the RTM Stage music and theater hall were opened at the end of 2020.
Aerjen Koeneman, Director Foruminvest: “We are proud that we can contribute to this area development with our hotel expertise. With HR Group, we linked a strong and expert hotel operator to the project. We are realizing the latest ibis Styles formula together with an attractive restaurant formula that fits perfectly with the combination of business and leisure overnight stays.” A franchise agreement has been concluded with Accor for the exploitation. HR Group is a multi-brand hotel operator based in Berlin. It operates approximately 80 hotels in Europe.
About Heart of South Rotterdam

In april start Europees vastgoedontwikkelaar Foruminvest met de bouw van een nieuw hotel met 250 kamers naast Rotterdam Ahoy. Het business en leisure hotel is langjarig verhuurd aan het Duitse HR Group, die er na de zomer van 2023 een ibis Styles gaat exploiteren.
Langgekoesterde wens
In 2020 tekenden Hart van Zuid, de bouwcombinatie Heijmans/Ballast Nedam, de gemeente Rotterdam en Rotterdam Ahoy een contract met Foruminvest inzake het nieuw te realiseren hotel. Een hotel is altijd een grote wens geweest van Ahoy. Bijzonder dat juist in deze moeilijke jaren de deal is gesloten en de bouw nu echt van start gaat. Jolanda Jansen, Algemeen Directeur Rotterdam Ahoy, zegt: “Wij zijn enorm verheugd dat na een lang aanlooptraject de kogel nu echt door de kerk is. De vraag naar hotelovernachtingen is groot tijdens o.a. (internationale) congressen, beurzen, shows en concerten. We kunnen straks een totaalpakket bieden. Ibis Styles past tevens goed bij onze stad, een uniek hotel met creatief design. Met het hotel erbij wordt dit gebied straks echt een nieuwe hotspot in de stad.”
Gebiedsontwikkeling
De bouw van het hotel maakt onderdeel uit van de gebiedsontwikkeling Hart van Zuid, het gebied rondom Ahoy en metrostation Zuidplein. Een bijzondere plek, gelegen aan het Zuiderpark, het grootste stadspark van Nederland. In 2018 werden binnen dit project al de Beurs- & Evenementenhallen van Ahoy gemoderniseerd en werden eind 2020 het nieuwe Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre en de muziek- en theaterzaal RTM Stage geopend.

Different kind of party
The plans for the anniversary celebration were different from the current reality. The corona virus that emerged last March and shut down the event industry is the cause of this. Jolanda Jansen, Managing Director Rotterdam Ahoy: "The plan was to go big this month with a party weekend for all our relations and to celebrate the official opening of the brand new Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center and RTM Stage. Of course we have those plans under the "The current circumstances have been put on hold and we hope to be able to get together later in the year and celebrate this milestone live. After all, we have been around for 50 years and are made for live meetings!" The kick-off of the anniversary year will be festive in a different form.

Jolanda Jansen, Algemeen Directeur Rotterdam Ahoy: "Het plan was om deze maand groots uit te pakken met een feestweekend voor al onze relaties en de officiële opening van het gloednieuwe Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre en RTM Stage te vieren. Uiteraard hebben we die plannen onder de huidige omstandigheden in de koelkast gezet en hopen we later in het jaar alsnog samen te kunnen komen en deze mijlpaal live te vieren. We bestaan tenslotte een heel jaar 50 jaar en zijn gemaakt voor live ontmoetingen!” De aftrap van het verjaardagsjaar wordt in andere vorm alsnog feestelijk.

Op de webpagina www.ahoy50jaar.nl blikt Ahoy terug op 50 jaar aan bijzondere evenementen en momenten. Een filmpje toont het speciaal ontworpen jubileumlogo, dat de locatie het gehele jaar zal gebruiken. Daarnaast werd er vanmorgen tijdens de dagopening van de eigen vakbeurs InfraTech, die dit jaar geheel online plaatsvindt, aandacht besteed aan het jubileum en wordt er voor nauwe relaties en voor medewerkers van Ahoy morgen een speciale livestream georganiseerd voorafgaand aan 'De Vrienden van Amstel Livestream’.
Bijzonder cadeau
Verder zijn de voorbereidingen in volle gang voor twee bijzondere jubileumactiviteiten: later in het jaar zal Ahoy op haar voorterrein een bijzonder cadeau aan de stad aanbieden en daarnaast wordt gewerkt aan de publicatie van een boek, waarin diverse Rotterdammers en bekenden hun herinneringen aan en visie op Ahoy delen. Jansen: "Deze twee bijzondere items willen we graag presenteren op een moment dat we weer echt samen kunnen komen en het glas kunnen heffen op een geweldige geschiedenis en veelbelovende toekomst!”

Expansion Rotterdam Ahoy
The new building, designed by Kraaijvanger Architects, forms the new entrance to Rotterdam Ahoy. The RACC has 35 rooms, varying from 50 to 1,000 people. RTM Stage is the largest room in the building. This space can be used as a music hall for 7,800 visitors (a so-called midsize arena) and as a theater / auditorium. With a capacity of 2,750 seats (and in the XL variant 4,000 seats), RTM Stage is the largest theater in the Netherlands.
Another special space in the building is the expo foyer 'De Rotterdam' on the 3rd floor. From this room you look out over the skyline of the city center of Rotterdam. Bar Restaurant Seventy One, named after the opening year of Ahoy, will soon welcome visitors to Ahoyplein. The new building is in direct connection with the rest of the event accommodation, which means that combinations with other areas in the building can be made in various ways.
The opening of the building will be celebrated later in 2021, the same year that Ahoy celebrates its 50th anniversary. Jolanda Jansen, General Manager Rotterdam Ahoy says: “It is a completely different year than we had envisaged in advance, but that applies to everyone. Nevertheless, we are incredibly proud of the truly beautiful new building that welcomes our visitors from now on. After years of preparation and building, it is now there and that is great. We look forward to receiving all visitors to conferences, events and concerts; that's what this building stands for. ”
Architecture
The new building turns the previously open space for the event accommodation into a town square. Two starting points played a major role in the realization of the design: experience and orientation. David Hess, architect partner at Kraaijvanger Architects says: “The building must contribute to the experience of a special experience. The architecture aims to surprise in a calm way. A surprise that should support the event and not drown out. ” This has not been achieved by, for example, using bright colors or wild shapes, but by its size. The building can already be seen from the Gooilandsingel at 250 meters. The black façade matches the sturdy appearance of the existing accommodation.
Heart of the South
The large-scale quality improvement of Hart van Zuid is taking place at a rapid pace. The Zwemcentrum Rotterdam and Theater Zuidplein with location of the Rotterdam Library are already in use. There will be an extension of the Zuidplein shopping center, a new bus station, a hotel and cinema, homes and catering facilities. The outdoor area will be completely refurbished. The central axis in the area, the Gooilandsingel, will be made car-free and designed as a promenade for pedestrians.
Het Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre (RACC) en de muziek- en theaterzaal RTM Stage zijn opgeleverd. Met deze uitbreiding beschikt Rotterdam Ahoy over 35 extra zalen voor (internationale) congressen en bijeenkomsten. Bijzonder aan RTM Stage is dat het dient als muziekzaal voor concerten en als theater/auditorium. De oplevering van het pand is een belangrijke stap voor Hart van Zuid.
Gemeente Rotterdam en het consortium Ballast Nedam en Heijmans werken samen in het gebiedsontwikkelingsproject Hart van Zuid aan een volwaardig stadscentrum voor Rotterdam Zuid.Ramon Janssen, directeur bouw bij Hart van Zuid: "Met de ingebruikname van het RACC en RTM stage wordt opnieuw een mijlpaal bereikt in de gebiedsontwikkeling Hart van Zuid. We zijn blij dat deze belangrijke functies worden toegevoegd aan het gebied.’"
Wethouder Bas Kurvers (Bouwen en Wonen): “De prachtige nieuwbouw van Ahoy maakt Hart van Zuid nog meer een stadscentrum. In coronatijd kijken mensen er reikhalzend naar uit om samen te winkelen, te sporten, naar een concert te gaan en uit te gaan eten. Dit kan straks allemaal in Hart van Zuid. De uitbreiding van Ahoy helpt de stad te groeien als zakelijke reisbestemming voor congressen en events. Zodra de vraag weer aantrekt is Rotterdam er klaar voor.’’
Uitbreiding Rotterdam Ahoy
De nieuwbouw, door Kraaijvanger Architects ontworpen, vormt de nieuwe entree van Rotterdam Ahoy. Het RACC beschikt over 35 zalen, variërend voor 50 tot 1.000 personen. RTM Stage is de grootste zaal van het gebouw. Deze ruimte kan gebruikt worden als muziekhal voor 7.800 bezoekers (een zogenoemde midsize arena) en als theater/auditorium. Met een capaciteit van 2.750 plaatsen (en in XL-variant 4.000 plaatsen) is RTM Stage de grootste theaterzaal van Nederland.
Een andere bijzondere ruimte in het gebouw is de expofoyer ‘De Rotterdam’ op de 3e etage. Vanuit deze ruimte kijk je uit over de skyline van de binnenstad van Rotterdam. Bar Restaurant Seventy One, vernoemd naar het openingsjaar van Ahoy, verwelkomt straks bezoekers aan het Ahoyplein. De nieuwbouw staat in directe verbinding met de rest van de evenementenaccommodatie waardoor op verschillende manieren combinaties met andere ruimtes in het gebouw gemaakt kunnen worden.
De opening van het gebouw zal later in 2021 gevierd worden, in hetzelfde jaar dat Ahoy 50 jaar bestaat. Jolanda Jansen, Algemeen directeur Rotterdam Ahoy zegt: “Het is een compleet ander jaar dan we vooraf hadden beoogd, maar dat geldt voor iedereen. Desalniettemin zijn we ongelofelijk trots op het werkelijk prachtige nieuwe gebouw dat onze bezoekers vanaf nu welkom heet. Na jaren van voorbereidingen en bouwen, staat het er nu en dat is geweldig. We kijken uit naar het ontvangen van alle bezoekers aan congressen, events en concerten; dat is waarvoor dit gebouw er staat.”
Architectuur
Het nieuwe gebouw maakt van de voorheen open vlakte voor de evenementenaccommodatie een stadsplein. Bij de totstandkoming van het ontwerp speelden twee uitgangspunten een hoofdrol: beleving en oriëntatie. David Hess, architect partner bij Kraaijvanger Architects zegt: “Het gebouw moet bijdragen aan de beleving van een bijzondere ervaring. De architectuur heeft als doel om op een rustige manier te verrassen. Een verrassing die het evenement moet ondersteunen en niet overstemmen.” Dit is niet bereikt door bijvoorbeeld toepassing van felle kleuren of wilde vormen maar door zijn maat. Op 250 meter is het gebouw vanuit de Gooilandsingel al te zien. De zwarte gevel sluit aan bij de stoere uitstraling van de bestaande accommodatie.
Hart van Zuid
De grootschalige kwaliteitsverbetering van Hart van Zuid voltrekt zich in een hoog tempo. Het Zwemcentrum Rotterdam en Theater Zuidplein met vestiging van Bibliotheek Rotterdam zijn al in gebruik. Er volgen nog een uitbreiding van Winkelcentrum Zuidplein, een nieuw busstation, een hotel en bioscoop, woningen en horecavoorzieningen. De buitenruimte wordt volledig nieuw ingericht. De centrale as in het gebied, de Gooilandsingel, wordt autovrij gemaakt en ingericht als een promenade voor voetgangers.

Leisureplot
The leisure plot is part of the Hart van Zuid area development, which also includes the Rotterdam Swimming Center, the newly opened Theater Zuidplein and the yet to be opened Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center and music hall RTM Stage. The area around Zuidplein will be the vibrant city center for South Rotterdam. More liveliness and a better and longer visit to the area are objectives within the development. The arrival of leisure facilities such as the Pathé cinema and the new catering industry gives an extra reason to visit Hart van Zuid. A visit to, for example, the Zuidplein Shopping Center or a walk in the Zuiderpark will soon be easy to combine with a movie and a dinner. Due to its location near the metro and bus station and not far from the A15, the facilities are easily accessible by public transport and car. There will be more than 600 parking spaces in the garage to be built. Construction of Pathé is expected to start in mid-2023.
A hotel is also planned within the leisure plot. In February of this year, a development agreement was signed for this together with Foruminvest. The final details are currently being discussed and it is expected that more will be known about the realization of the hotel soon.

Epicurus, together with De Architecten Cie, has drawn up a plan for a powerful and striking building, in which the latest formulas for cinema and catering will find a place. Rotterdam Ahoy and the Pathé cinema will embrace the square on three sides. The cinema and the catering industry with spacious terraces will bring cosiness and liveliness seven days a week.
Parking garage
Thom Hienekamp, Managing Director Ballast Nedam Parking: As Ballast Nedam Parking we are proud to be able to make our contribution to the development of the leisure site in Hart van Zuid. The new parking garage, designed by ourselves in collaboration with wUrck architecture urban development landscape, consists of 626 parking spaces and will provide the required parking capacity. A wonderful reference, both through the collaboration in the construction team with all stakeholders and through the realization of the parking garage in the inner city area.

Naast Rotterdam Ahoy komen definitief een bioscoop, horeca en een parkeergarage. Deze week zijn de contracten getekend tussen de ontwikkelcombinatie Ballast Nedam Development en Heijmans Vastgoed, Gemeente Rotterdam, Rotterdam Ahoy, Pathé, Ballast Nedam Parking en projectontwikkelaar Epicurus. In februari 2020 werd al een ontwikkelovereenkomst gesloten voor de realisatie van een hotel. Hiermee krijgt leisure een volwaardige plek binnen de gebiedsontwikkeling Hart van Zuid.
Leisureplot
Het leisureplot maakt onderdeel uit van de gebiedsontwikkeling Hart van Zuid, waar o.a. ook Zwemcentrum Rotterdam, het net geopende Theater Zuidplein en het nog te openen Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre en muziekzaal RTM Stage toe behoren. Het gebied rond Zuidplein wordt het bruisende stadscentrum voor Rotterdam-Zuid. Meer levendigheid en een beter en langduriger bezoek aan het gebied zijn doelstellingen binnen de ontwikkeling. De komst van vrijetijdsvoorzieningen zoals de Pathé bioscoop en de nieuwe horeca geeft extra aanleiding om Hart van Zuid te bezoeken. Een bezoek aan bijvoorbeeld Winkelcentrum Zuidplein of een wandeling in het Zuiderpark is straks goed te combineren met een filmpje pakken en een etentje. Door de ligging vlakbij het metro- en busstation en niet ver van de A15 zijn de voorzieningen goed bereikbaar met het OV en de auto. In de te bouwen garage komen ruim 600 parkeerplaatsen. Naar verwachting start de bouw van Pathé medio 2023.
Ook staat een hotel gepland binnen het leisureplot. In februari van dit jaar werd hiervoor samen met Foruminvest een ontwikkelovereenkomst getekend. De laatste details worden momenteel besproken en de verwachting is dat er binnenkort meer bekend wordt over de realisatie van het hotel.

Pathé bioscoop

De plannen voor de bioscoop en de horeca
Bernard van der Schans, directeur Epicurus: Het Zuiderparkplein wordt met de realisatie van de bioscoop en horeca een aantrekkelijk stedelijk gebied. Epicurus heeft samen met De Architecten Cie een plan opgesteld voor een krachtig en markant gebouw, waarin de nieuwste formules voor bioscoop en horeca een plek zullen vinden. Rotterdam Ahoy en de Pathé-bioscoop zullen het plein aan drie kanten omarmen. De bioscoop en de horeca met ruime terrassen zullen zeven dagen per week gezelligheid en levendigheid brengen.
Parkeergarage
Thom Hienekamp, Managing Director Ballast Nedam Parking: Als Ballast Nedam Parking zijn wij trots onze bijdrage te kunnen leveren aan de ontwikkeling van het leisureplot in Hart van Zuid. De nieuwe parkeergarage, door onszelf in samenwerking met wUrck architectuur stedenbouw landschap ontworpen, bestaat uit 626 parkeerplaatsen en zal invulling geven aan de benodigde parkeercapaciteit. Een prachtige referentie zowel door de samenwerking in het bouwteam met alle stakeholders als door het realiseren van de parkeergarage in binnenstedelijk gebied.
Over Hart van Zuid Rotterdam
Hart van Zuid werkt aan een bruisend stadscentrum voor Zuid. De eerste grote mijlpaal van Hart van Zuid was de oplevering van Zwemcentrum Rotterdam. Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum is onder grote belangstelling geopend. Direct nadat de kaartverkoop vorige week werd gestart, was de run op tickets groot. De wachttijden bij de ingang zijn echter kort, omdat bezoekers in van tevoren gekochte timeslots de tentoonstelling bezoeken. Tot en met 23 augustus rijden bezoekers met hun eigen elektrische auto of een, door Breeman BMW & MINI ter beschikking gestelde, elektrische Mini en BMW door Hal 1 van Rotterdam Ahoy (10.000 m2), waar zo’n vijftig spraakmakende kunstwerken uit de collectie van Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen te zien zijn.
Onder de getoonde werken is Bunkhouse van Paul McCarthy – bekend van Santa Claus (Kabouter Buttplug) – dat voor het eerst in Nederland wordt getoond. Nieuw werk te zien in Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum
Naast dat er ruim vijftig kunstwerken uit de collectie te zien zijn, zijn ook enkele kunstenaars uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan het drive-thru museum. Frank Bruggeman en Bas van Beek maakten speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling nieuwe installaties. Ook zijn er veel kunstwerken te zien die nieuw zijn voor het museum. Olaf Nicolai, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Bas Princen & OFFICE Kersten Geers David van Severen en Ted Noten selecteerden speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling passende bruiklenen uit hun oeuvres.
Kunst beleven in je eigen veilige cocon
‘Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum’ is een volkomen veilige tentoonstelling, bezoekers beleven de kunstwerken vanuit hun veilige cocon, de auto. Deze unieke ervaring kan alleen maar nu worden georganiseerd. Vanwege de coronapandemie staan de zalen van Ahoy leeg en het museum is gesloten vanwege renovatie. Nederland blijft deze zomer in eigen land. Rotterdammers blijven thuis. Twee Rotterdamse iconen werken samen in dit project en bieden een onvergetelijke kunstervaring. Exclusief voor deze tijd en inclusief voor iedereen.
Natuur vs. cultuur
Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum is ontstaan als reactie op de anderhalvemetersamenleving en toont het huidige spanningsveld tussen de natuur en de mens. De wereld zoals wij die hebben gecreëerd staat onder druk, de natuur eist haar ruimte terug. Zo nietig en klein als een virus is, zo groot is de impact die het heeft op onze levens. Alles staat even stil, het toont ons onze kwetsbaarheid en de grenzen van het bestaan. We worden op onszelf teruggeworpen. Soms biedt kunst in dit alles troost of een voorspellende blik; een andere keer toont het de grilligheid van het menselijke bestaan. ‘Boijmans Ahoy drive-thru museum’ onderzoekt de grens tussen wat ons menszijn vermag en de ongekende kracht van de natuur.

Van tevoren kopen bezoekers online een ticket voor alle inzittenden van de auto via www.boijmans.nl/drivethru. Hiermee wordt een tijdslot gereserveerd waarop zij met de auto de tentoonstelling mogen betreden.
