Event agency IINII plunges into the election market
With the disappearance of all live events, organizers have had to reinvent themselves. For example, in the past year IINII came up with the spacer, developed the corona-proof Scala Theater and organized many online and hybrid events. In the coming weeks, the events office will also make an important contribution to the preparation of the results of the parliamentary elections.
As a trial, the counting of votes will be divided over two rounds in a number of municipalities this year. There, the polling stations count all votes per party on 17 March, after the close of the ballot boxes. This determines the provisional result of the vote. The following day, a second count will take place at candidate level, which is freely accessible to residents. This so-called central counting of votes (CSO) determines the final result per polling station. This should make the outcome more efficient, transparent and reliable. The counting process can be well controlled and the chance of a recount is reduced. A responsible job that in these times involves extra protocols. Event agency IINII already gained experience with this in 2019 during the European, Provincial Council and Water Board elections in Rotterdam. In addition to the port city, Amsterdam and Utrecht have entrusted the logistics organization of the CSO to IINII for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Although the addition of postal voting (for the elderly) and early voting (for the vulnerable) adds extra dimensions this time, co-founder Nicole van der Valk sees this as an assignment that is completely in line with her company. “Large-scale events and the logistics, crowd control, safety and corona measures that come with them are our profession. As a result, IINII can perfectly translate the protocols set up by the municipalities into a scenario for everything that is needed on location. Consider the number of counters and the number of halls that you need as a result of the mutual distance to finish counting on time in the evening. But also catering, air quality, safe walking routes for interested citizens and media guidance. It is an extensive operation, involving more than 1000 people altogether. In addition, it is an exciting new sport for us. We can also use the experience we are gaining now in future elections, such as the municipal elections in 2022. ”

Met het wegvallen van alle live-evenementen hebben organisatoren zichzelf opnieuw moeten uitvinden. Zo heeft IINII in het afgelopen jaar o.a. de afstandhouder bedacht, het coronaproof Scala Theater ontwikkeld en veel online en hybride events georganiseerd. De komende weken levert het evenementenbureau ook een belangrijke bijdrage aan de totstandkoming van de uitslag van de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen.
Bij wijze van proef wordt het tellen van de stemmen dit jaar in een aantal gemeenten over twee ronden verdeeld. Daar tellen de stembureaus op 17 maart, na het sluiten van de stembussen, alle stemmen per partij. Dit bepaalt de voorlopige stemuitslag. De dag erna vindt een tweede telling op kandidaatsniveau plaats, die voor de inwoners vrij toegankelijk is. Deze zogenoemde centrale stemopneming (CSO) bepaalt de definitieve uitslag per stembureau. Dit moet de uitkomst efficiënter, transparanter en betrouwbaarder maken. Het telproces kan goed gecontroleerd worden en de kans op op hertelling wordt kleiner. Een verantwoordelijke klus dus, die in deze tijden met extra veel protocollen gepaard gaat. Evenementenbureau IINII heeft hiermee in 2019 al ervaring opgedaan tijdens de Europese, Provinciale Staten- en Waterschapsverkiezingen in Rotterdam. Voor de aankomende Tweede Kamerverkiezingen hebben, naast de havenstad, ook Amsterdam en Utrecht de logistieke organisatie van de CSO aan IINII toevertrouwd.
Hoewel de toevoeging van het briefstemmen (voor ouderen) en vroeg stemmen (voor kwetsbaren) dit keer weer extra dimensies toevoegt, ziet medeoprichter Nicole van der Valk dit als een opdracht die helemaal in het straatje van haar bedrijf past. “Grootschalige evenementen en de logistiek, crowd control, veiligheid en coronamaatregelen die daarbij komen kijken, zijn ons vak. Daardoor kan IINII de door de gemeenten opgezette protocollen perfect vertalen in een draaiboek voor alles wat op locatie nodig is. Denk aan het aantal tellers en het aantal hallen dat je als gevolg van de onderlinge afstand nodig hebt om ’s avonds op tijd klaar te zijn met het tellen. Maar ook aan de catering, luchtkwaliteit, veilige looproutes voor geïnteresseerde burgers en begeleiding van de media. Het is een omvangrijke operatie, waaraan alles bij elkaar meer dan 1000 mensen meewerken. Daarnaast is het voor ons een boeiende nieuwe tak van sport. De ervaring die we nu opdoen, kunnen we ook bij toekomstige verkiezingen weer goed inzetten, zoals de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in 2022.”
