UC Santa Cruz Music Center Recital Hall

The Recital Hall is a performance venue within the University of California, Santa Cruz Music Center, available for selected campus and community events when the Music Department's own programme allows. Its main use is for music performances, so it is particularly suited to organisers planning concerts, recitals and other live events where the sound of the room matters.

The auditorium has 386 fixed seats, with additional spaces for up to five wheelchair users. Its acoustics can be adjusted to suit different styles of music using a movable canopy above the stage and curtains that alter the room's reverberation. The stage is approximately 50 feet wide by 34 feet deep, and a motorised orchestra pit can be positioned at different levels. Production facilities include a full sound system, theatrical lighting, video equipment and a stage manager's station. Two dressing rooms and an indoor lobby are also available, with the lobby accommodating around 150 people.

The hall is not an open-calendar venue, and its primary purpose is to support UCSC Music Department classes, rehearsals, recordings and performances. Dates not required by the department may be considered for campus or community groups, with musical events generally given priority. Availability is limited, particularly during the academic year, and bookings are planned after the department finalises its production schedule. Organisers should contact the Music Department's technical director early to discuss dates, event suitability and rates. Costs are confirmed only through an agreement with the department.
