Today Koninklijke Jaarbeurs is the first event location in the Netherlands to receive the COVID-19 prevention measures quality mark from the Kiwa inspection institute. In the past period, Kiwa has assessed the measures that Jaarbeurs has taken to prevent the possible spread of the corona virus. With the quality mark Jaarbeurs can demonstrate that trade fairs, conferences and other gatherings take place according to the highest safety standards.

The Kiwa quality mark for COVID-19 prevention measures helps event locations to make it clear to visitors and guests that a location has done everything possible to guarantee safety as optimally as possible. As the largest event location, Jaarbeurs considers it important to contribute to the launch of the quality mark and to contribute to people's confidence that events can take place safely.

COVID-19 coordinator of Jaarbeurs ir. Rob Kraan: “We are very proud that we have acquired this quality mark. With this we show that there is a safe basis for events to take place. At the end of the day, we do of course rely on the behavior of our guests and visitors. Only together can we ensure that Jaarbeurs can really be the safest event location in the Netherlands. ”

The Kiwa quality mark is for organizations that want their COVID-19 prevention measures to be tested against the applicable national and international requirements and any additional industry or company guidelines. As part of the quality mark, Kiwa periodically carries out an assessment, during which the protocols and prevention measures of an organization are checked. If the policy to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus meets the applicable guidelines, this will result in a Kiwa declaration of conformity and quality mark.

“At Kiwa, we are extremely proud that with this quality mark we can contribute to the safe organization of events at the Jaarbeurs”, says Michael van der Vlies, Division Director of Kiwa Management Systems. “We all know that the coronavirus outbreak has had a huge impact on the exhibition and events sector. I therefore hope that our COVID-19 prevention measures quality mark will help the Jaarbeurs to get back to work organizing great events whenever possible. That is not only good for the Jaarbeurs itself, but for everyone who visits such an event, whether for business or pleasure. ”

Jaarbeurs app will help with crowd control

Jaarbeurs has today also launched the first version of an app with which you can easily adjust your behavior during a fair or event. With the Jaarbeurs Welcome app, visitors can quickly see where it is busy in the complex and then choose to visit another part of the event first. The Jaarbeurs itself can, in turn, deploy hosts and women in a targeted manner to spread people more widely. The Welcome app works via hundreds of so-called beacons, which are installed in the Jaarbeurs halls. Thanks to technology based on geomagnetic radiation, crowd control can be organized accurately to the meter. It is the first time that this technology is used in this form in the Netherlands.

Trade fair and corona

Just like the entire event industry, Jaarbeurs has been hit hard by the corona virus. Arp: “Fortunately, we were in good health when the crisis started. Now it is important to be ready and to guarantee the safety of employees and visitors even more as soon as the doors are allowed to open a little further. ” Earlier this year Jaarbeurs also opened a temporary theater, SCALA, which has been built in accordance with the advice of the RIVM. Up to 1060 people can enjoy a performance at a safe distance from each other in the theater. A complete overview of the prevention measures taken by Jaarbeurs can be found at www.jaarbeurs.nl/veilig. Jaarbeurs is organizing a live Q and A session via the website on 14 January 2021.
