When you say Alix - Maison d'Amis, you (hopefully) immediately think of our amazing and gigantic garden in the center of Ghent. Situated between the station and the historic heart of the city, hidden behind the facade of a beautiful townhouse. But perhaps you have a beautiful garden of your own and are thinking of organizing a garden party. In that case, there are a few things you certainly shouldn't overlook. We are happy to help you on your way with a handy checklist!
1. Weather conditions and comfort (or: a Plan B)
- At an outdoor party in Belgium, the weather is the biggest variable. Make sure you are prepared for everything.
One or more tents: ensure a covered area large enough for all guests (for eating, drinking, and the ceremony). The muscle-bound team at 2vrent provides top-notch service!
- Heating or cooling: consider patio heaters or a fire pit for the evening, or shade cloths and fans during heatwaves.
- Surface: Are there places where stilettos sink into the grass? Consider a wooden floor or warn guests in advance.
- Insects: Place baskets with mosquito repellent and sunscreen.
2. Technology & Logistics
- The invisible things that make the party a success.
- Power supply: Is the fuse box powerful enough for both the coffee machine and the caterer's oven? An extra circuit or generator is often not an unnecessary luxury.
- Lighting: provide mood lighting, but do not forget the functional lighting.
- Toilets: Is the indoor capacity sufficient? If not, consider a portable toilet (including connections/drain).
- Neighbors: inform them (or invite them!) to prevent complaints.
3. Catering & beverages
- Eating outdoors requires a specific approach.
- Refrigeration: where do you store the ice cubes and white wine? Ensure you have enough refrigerators, but don't forget the freezer.
- Water supply: ensure there is a central point where guests can always get water, especially on hot days.
- Dietary requirements: make a list of allergies in advance, and don't forget the vegetarians or vegans.

4. Styling & atmosphere
It's all in the details.
- Signage: make nice signs for 'Ceremony', 'Bar', and 'Toilet'.

5. “Just that little bit extra”
- First aid kit: for minor accidents
- Coat rack for coats
- Umbrella stand
- Basket in the toilet with chewing gum, deodorant, tampons,…
- Parking: Is there enough space on the street or in the neighborhood, or does a field/parking lot need to be reserved?
