29 July 2020

From September, AED Studios in Lint offers TV, film and event producers the opportunity to use a high-tech XR studio. Extended reality (XR) is the umbrella term for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and other immersive technologies. In the XR studio, the physical and digital world can be perfectly connected to each other and this opens up new, extensive and unique possibilities for audiovisual productions. The XR Studio is a partnership between various specialized European companies (AED Display, MalfMedia, AV Wizard, byLEX and Eurogrip) that have equipped Studio 4 in the Lint media complex with a high-tech XR setup. By means of premium LED screens (floor and side walls), real-time rendering by powerful media servers, camera tracking systems and streaming facilities, the installation is immediately ready for interactive company presentations and for recording film and TV programs. Thanks to the collaboration of the various partners who have the greatest expertise in each part of this project, the possibilities are almost endless. Film and television makers will have access to the best technology to make their production process more efficient with fewer restrictions. The events industry can take presentations, meetings and product launches to the next level in the XR Studio thanks to the fusion of reality and the virtual world. The technology thus creates a unique experience for the viewer. Glenn Roggeman, CEO of AED group: “With this technology we focus on a wide spectrum of audiovisual productions. Film producers can shoot special scenes and effects here, television makers can create interactive sports and fiction programs or shows with a virtual audience, companies can turn their most ambitious ideas into dazzling presentations or commercials. The option of 'set extension' allows us to add virtual images, effects or elements in real-time to the image in a unique way, and the people who are actually on the set are intuitively immersed in a total experience. There are only a few such studios available worldwide, and we are proud that we can now also offer this in Belgium. Our customers now have access to the same technology that has already been used in Hollywood productions such as The Mandalorian, Nighthawks, Starwars, and so on. ” In the month of August, potential users can get to know the new technology during six live demo days (13-14, 20-21 and 27-28 August).
