Stefan Hazen is the new general manager of Landgoed Altenbroek as of March 1, 2023. Landgoed Altenbroek – bought in 2018 by entrepreneur David van Brakel (44) – is a hotel & restaurant located in the Voeren, Belgium. Surrounded by lush nature, located in the valley of the Voer region, the estate can be called a true pearl. After a thorough renovation, the historic Altenbroek - open since August 2021 - is ready for a bright future as a 4-star superior product. But they are by no means ready.

Stefan Hazen is only 36 years old, but already has a great deal of experience. He worked for two years as general manager at Golf-Resort Brunssummerheide and for the past eight years as director of Winselerhof in Landgraaf. “I had to think about leaving there for a while,” he says. “After such a long period, you don't leave colleagues behind, but a piece of family. However, David van Brakel's offer was so tempting that it was difficult for me to ignore this challenge. Landgoed Altenbroek is a hidden gem that can appeal to a wide audience.” Stefan already has some ideas to bring the castle to life. “We have everything a guest or casual walker or cyclist could wish for. We also have plenty of room for parties and events for private individuals, but why not also focus on workations. You move your work to a leisure destination for roughly a few days and you will see that the connection between luxury and nature puts you in a different flow .”

David van Brakel is the one who brought Stefan on board. He has been director of Landgoed Altenbroek since he bought the castle and surrounding domain in 2018. Since then he has renovated and restored a lot. The oldest buildings date from the fourteenth century. In addition to preparing the existing 22 rooms for a hotel, he also built 23 new rooms and a restaurant. This section is now fully operational. New suites are yet to be completed in 2023. And are there any further plans to turn it into a real 'destination' location. The organization is also busy with several locations to turn it into a real hotel group with unique and quirky places. Which is also one of the reasons that Stefan stepped into the adventure as GM.
