Smedmore House

Smedmore House is an exclusive-use Georgian country house in the Dorset countryside, close to Kimmeridge Bay on the Jurassic Coast. The historic manor is available for weddings, civil ceremonies, family celebrations, house parties and corporate occasions, including dinners, meetings and presentations. Its private setting, gardens and coastal views make it a distinctive choice for event planners seeking a venue with character and accommodation on site.

Couples can hold civil ceremonies in the house or in the grounds, including the Walled Garden and tree-lined avenue. Indoor ceremony rooms accommodate up to 60 guests, while outdoor ceremony options are described as having no set guest limit. For receptions, the front lawn can be used for a marquee, with the Walled Garden providing a sheltered setting for drinks. Smaller celebrations can take different forms, from a weekend house party to a garden gathering or a formal meal indoors.

The main house sleeps 16 across eight double bedrooms. Optional accommodation in the Garden Wing and Penthouse Suite brings the total capacity to 24, making it possible for family or colleagues to stay together. Catering and marquee hire are not included in the venue hire, although the house provides recommended supplier lists and arrangements can be discussed for each booking.

Beyond weddings, Smedmore House offers a private setting for company events, dinners, meetings and presentations, as well as film-location hire. Organisers can enquire about availability and discuss the rooms, grounds, accommodation and event format to suit their plans.
