Sanctuary

Sanctuary is a Georgian country estate in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, offering its historic properties and grounds for private retreats, group experiences and corporate events. The Glebe is one of the estate’s distinctive houses, set among gardens and ancient woodland. Other properties across the estate provide additional accommodation, allowing groups to stay together while making use of the shared surroundings.

Organisers can enquire about hiring the estate for a retreat, executive meeting, leadership gathering, team experience or private group stay. The setting combines period character with practical hospitality, including bedrooms, communal spaces and an event room at Kilfane House. The estate’s accommodation can host groups of up to around 30 people, depending on the booking and properties selected.

Food is part of the offering for hosted groups. An in-house chef prepares meals using produce from the estate’s gardens, and the walled garden, open countryside and woodland give guests space to walk, reflect or spend time outdoors. The grounds also include streams and historic buildings, creating a quiet rural backdrop for multi-day programmes.

Sanctuary also runs its own spiritual retreats, with teaching sessions and group activities led by Lorna Byrne. For independent organisers, the estate can be booked for their own retreat or corporate gathering, subject to arrangements with the Sanctuary team. The site is around four kilometres from Thomastown town centre, and the property mix allows planners to discuss accommodation and event use together when arranging a stay.
