AI the future for events? Momice put it to the test at her own anniversary event

AI chatbot analyzed the events industry during the 10-year event of event software company Momice. And it immediately made it clear that the event manager remains indispensable as a person

That event software company Momice continues to challenge itself was evident again yesterday during its own 10-year anniversary 'Update 10.0'. Momice was the first in the industry to invite an AI bot to participate in a panel discussion, together with event experts Maarten Schram (IDEA) and Dirk Prijs (Society for Event Managers). The question is of course who can 'read' the industry better: AI or human experts?

Momice, a leading player in event technology, marked a special milestone last week: the company celebrated its 10th anniversary. During the closing plenary session of the event, experts Maarten Schram and Dirk Prijs entered into discussions with each other and the audience. Under the leadership of moderator Tom Jessen, they discussed a number of statements that made the depth and breadth of the industry palpable.

AI: a threat to the event industry?

But Price and Schram were not the only panelists. Molly, the AI bot, also shared her view on the future of events and technology. What turned out? Her answers were correct, but generic. “Open doors,” came the voice from the audience.

Why Momice chose to give Molly the floor? Momice founder Rutger Bremer explains: “Momice believes that the event industry is constantly evolving and that technology plays a key role in this transformation. Momice embraces these changes and wants to be a pioneer in the industry.” Earlier this year, Momice was the first to integrate AI into the software. “It's not perfect yet, but we want to continue to look at how AI can continue to strengthen us.”

The AI theme is alive and well, as was evident from the great interest in the AI workshop that was given twice during the day to approximately 100 event professionals. The session showcased a large number of AI applications for events and was received with great enthusiasm by those present. “This is striking, because the target group is usually not very keen on technology,” says Bremer.

The audience overwhelmingly disagreed with the statement: “With the arrival of AI, my job is at stake.” Opinions were divided on whether the skill set should change: the public does not think so, but the experts qualify this: “There has been so much movement in the industry in recent years,” says Maarten Schram (IDEA). “In fact, every event manager is also a bit of a business consultant these days. A lot is asked of professionals – and that is not always easy.”

Dirk Prijs adds: “The rotten work is automated, leaving more room for human contact.” Rutger Bremer encourages those present to really spend the remaining time on that - and not simply organize more events.

10 years Events are serious business

Thanks to her roots in the event industry, Momice understands better than anyone that events are serious business. “Our anniversary event was not only a celebration of Momice's 10th anniversary, but also a recognition of the growing complexity and diversity of the event industry,” said Bremer.

“The event was a tribute to the event professionals who work day in, day out to create valuable events, and thus to the growth of their organization. The event industry, complex and beautiful, deserves respect! And that was palpable throughout the day!”
