Audiovisual production company celebrates 25 years!

The story of John&Jane starts in 1998 with Nico Lameire (founder & managing partner). As a little boy he was fascinated by loudspeakers and lights. He soon started renting equipment through Deltarent and was responsible for technical production at events. Today, Deltarent is part of the John&Jane Group, which he developed into a successful company in the event sector together with Katrien Vermeire (managing director) and Lieven Tacq (managing partner).

“We experienced strong growth in those 25 years,” says Nico Lameire. “Today, the John&Jane Group consists of the rental branch Deltarent and John&Jane, with which we focus on the high-quality technical production of events. What remains unchanged is the passion and know-how with which we all work for our customers.”

Technical partner for events

Today, a total of thirty believers work at John&Jane. “We call them that because they all together radiate the values and standards of our company,” says Katrien Vermeire. “Because you may have as much high-quality equipment in your home, but if they don't put the puzzle together and install each part carefully, then you won't have an event. Each of them is an expert in their field and we invest heavily in training to make them even stronger and take our premium service to an even higher level. John&Jane is not only a supplier of sound, light, video or decor. We are a technical producer and experienced partner for our customers before, during and after the event.”

Future and sector-oriented growth

Over the years, John&Jane grew through acquisitions of other companies and a merger with CRS. Thus, the know-how of stage design was added to the expertise in audio, light and video. “We also have ambitions to expand further in the future. On the one hand through acquisitions, and on the other hand by continuing to raise the bar with every production. We invest in our expertise and in our people so that we can continue to deliver on our long-term partnerships and high customer retention,” says Lieven Tacq. “We also contribute to the events sector. We want to further professionalize this, including through the John&Jane Academy in which we explain the basic principles of the technical side of events. We seize the opportunities that come our way and are very excited about the next 25 years.”

Audiovisueel productiebedrijf viert 25 jaar!

Op maandag 18 december staat John&Jane zelf in de spotlights. Het premium audiovisuele eventbedrijf uit Ruiselede blaast dan 25 kaarsjes uit. Tijd voor een terugblik, maar ook voor toekomstplannen en dromen met nog meer high-end producties en nog meer kansen om uit te breiden. Maar vooral: nog meer goesting om de Belgische eventsector duidelijk op de kaart te zetten.

Het verhaal van John&Jane start in 1998 met Nico Lameire (founder & managing partner). Als kleine jongen was hij gefascineerd door geluidsboxen en lichten. Al snel startte hij via Deltarent met de verhuur van materiaal en stond hij zelf in voor de technische productie op evenementen. Vandaag is Deltarent deel van de John&Jane Group, die hij samen met Katrien Vermeire (managing director) en Lieven Tacq (managing partner) uitbouwde tot een succesvol bedrijf in de eventsector.

“We kenden in die 25 jaar een sterke groei”, zegt Nico Lameire. “Vandaag bestaat de John&Jane Group uit de verhuurtak Deltarent en uit John&Jane, waarmee we focussen op de hoogkwalitatieve technische productie van events. Wat onveranderd blijft, is de passie en knowhow waarmee we allemaal te werk gaan voor onze klanten.”

Technische partner voor events

Vandaag werken bij John&Jane in totaal dertig believers. “We noemen hen zo, omdat zij allemaal samen de waarden en normen van ons bedrijf uitstralen”, vertelt Katrien Vermeire. “Want je mag nog zoveel kwalitatieve apparatuur in huis hebben, als zij de puzzel niet leggen en elk onderdeel zorgvuldig installeren, dan heb je geen event. Elk van hen is expert in zijn vak en we investeren volop in opleidingen om hen nog sterker te maken en onze premium service naar een nog hoger niveau te tillen. John&Jane is niet enkel een leverancier van klank, licht, video of decor. We zijn een technische producer en ervaren partner voor onze klanten voor, tijdens en na het event.”

Toekomst- en sectorgericht groeien

Doorheen de jaren groeide John&Jane door onder meer overnames van andere bedrijven en door een fusie met CRS. Zo voegde zich bij de expertise in audio, licht en video de knowhow van stage design toe. “Ook naar de toekomst toe koesteren we ambities om verder uit te breiden. Enerzijds door overnames, anderzijds door de lat bij elke productie hoger te blijven leggen. We investeren in onze expertise en in onze mensen zodat we onze langdurige partnerships en hoge klantenretentie blijven waarmaken”, zegt Lieven Tacq. “Daarnaast dragen we ons steentje bij aan de eventsector. Die willen we verder professionaliseren, onder meer via de John&Jane Academy waarin we de basisbeginselen van de technische kant van events toelichten. We grijpen de kansen die op ons pad komen en hebben veel goesting in de volgende 25 jaar.”

Technical knowledge is key!

To organize an event you need 3 ingredients: knowledge, expertise and a strong network of professional partners. How you bring them together is crucial. It may seem obvious, but in reality things don't always go so smoothly.

Katrien Vermeire, managing partner at John & Jane: “We set the bar high and attach great importance to quality, both in our productions and in the quotations we send out. These applications often went wrong. Vague descriptions, limited knowledge of the technical aspect, ... In addition, there is the enormous brain drain in our sector due to the covid crisis. Because we want to support the entire sector and also attach great importance to training, the idea grew to create a mini guide that bundles important technical knowledge.”

Technical knowledge central

In the mini guide, John & Jane and take you through the elements that are important in the organization, the course and the completion of an event. Through 6 chapters you will be familiarized with the practical tips and tricks, do's and don'ts, principles and guidelines in the organization, from an audiovisual perspective and from a collaboration with all event partners.

How do you set up an event in nine important steps? How do you set up an event briefing to request quotes? How do you compare those quotes? How do you determine the flow of an event? What do you pay attention to when booking a venue? How do you add experience?

“You will receive an expert and substantiated answer to all those questions, straight from practice and from the experience of our John & Jane believers,” says Katrien. “By working together you create the ultimate experience that customers and guests will talk about for a long time to come. With this miniguide we want to offer people who organize an event, but also future event managers or marketing managers in companies, a unique view of the technical side of an event.”

Om een event te organiseren heb je 3 ingrediënten nodig: kennis, expertise en een sterk netwerk van professionele partners. Hoe je die bij elkaar brengt, is cruciaal. Het lijkt misschien vanzelfsprekend, maar in realiteit verloopt het niet altijd zo vlot.

Katrien Vermeire, managing partner bij John & Jane: “We leggen de lat hoog en hechten veel belang aan kwaliteit, zowel in onze producties als in de offertes die we uitsturen. Bij die aanvragen liep het vaak al fout. Vage omschrijvingen, beperkte kennis van het technische aspect, … Daarbij komt nog eens de enorme braindrain in onze sector door de covidcrisis. Omdat we de hele sector willen ondersteunen en zelf ook veel belang hechten aan opleiding groeide het idee om een miniguide te creëren die belangrijke technische kennis bundelt.”

Technische kennis centraal

In de miniguide neemt John & Jane en je mee langs de elementen die belangrijk zijn bij de organisatie, het verloop en de afbouw van een event. Doorheen 6 hoofdstukken wordt je wegwijs gemaakt in de praktische tips en tricks, do’s-and-don’ts, principes en richtlijnen in de organisatie, vanuit een audiovisuele bril en vanuit een samenwerking met alle eventpartners.

Hoe zet je een event op poten in negen belangrijke stappen? Hoe stel je een eventbriefing op om offertes aan te vragen? Hoe vergelijk je die offertes? Hoe bepaal je de flow van een event? Waar let je op bij het boeken van een venue? Hoe voeg je beleving toe?

Katrien Vermeire (John & Jane) nominated for prestigious entrepreneurial award

Every year, Markant vzw, UNIZO and the Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship reward female entrepreneurial talent. This year, Katrien Vermeire is one of those nominated talents. As managing partner of John & Jane, a premium audiovisual event company, Katrien manages 20 permanent employees, who are supplemented by freelancers. These were two difficult years, for everyone, and certainly for the event sector. Katrien Vermeire propelled the John & Jane ship through choppy waters. For example, she founded the #SoundOfSilence action group together with other event professionals and continued to fully believe in the opportunities of the sector. With John & Jane, under the motto Never waste a good crisis, she led the way for investments, with acquisitions, extra staff and extensive R&D.

Her authentic faith, commitment and passion for the industry and for its people are part of the reason why she was nominated for the Womed Award. This award is for an ambitious female entrepreneur who has been independent for at least five years. Among other things, attention is paid to social commitment and involvement, long-term vision, ambitions, sustainable or social entrepreneurship, etc. Characteristics that match Katrien's values and standards.

Katrien gaat er prat op: “De werknemers en de partners van John & Jane zijn bijzonder belangrijk in dit verhaal. Met hun expertise en audiovisuele ondersteuning maken ze van events een onvergetelijke ervaring, als een team.
