On Tuesday June 1, PFL, Sylvester and Easyfairs organized CRAFTING YOUR FUTURE EVENT – THINK HYBRID, a one-hour hybrid event from the studios in Antwerp, Turnhout and Barcelona. Intent? Create a clear picture of the safety, technology, production and the future of the Belgian event sector.

Not coincidentally, because for several months now, questions have arisen from the business world about the approach, measures and challenges in organizing events. “A great opportunity to make a statement”, says Geert Vanoverschelde, CEO of the production and event house Sylvester. “We wanted to share our expertise and our learnings from the past year with everyone. And that is why we have put our shoulders to the wheel together with PFL and Easyfairs for this hybrid event.”

“The event world is only getting more exciting and creative.

And we are ready.”

Hybrid, in other words, and that immediately meant that both a physically present audience and a large group of online viewers had to be taken into account. The livestream was therefore broadcast via the Belgian online event venue MEEPLE. There, digital participants could access a plenary session, but also fill in polls, chat, network and make video calls with the speakers. Physical attendees could also use the same platform via a QR code.

“Not every event will be a hybrid”

And those speakers were some of the biggest experts in the Belgian event world. The following were reviewed by hosts Eva Kamanda and Otto-Jan Ham: Event Consultant Peter Decuypere, Safety Expert Chris De Smet, COO & Head of Venues at Easyfairs Alain D'Haese, CEO of PFL Dominic De Gruyter, event director Tony Proesmans and Geert Vanoverschelde himself.

“The future of events is hybrid”, says Vanoverschelde, “although that does not mean that every event in the future will be hybrid. It mainly means that people will think about events from a hybrid perspective. There will be a mix of physical, digital and hybrid happenings. And it is therefore essential to first define the objectives and target groups in order to tailor the type and look & feel of an event to that.”

“Rapid Evolution”

Vanoverschelde notices a lot of movement and a rapid evolution within the event industry. “I am convinced that the event world will only become more exciting and creative. There are now so many more options than before. I think with this hybrid event we have shown that we are at least ready for it. With a lot of enthousiasm."
