What do a moderator and an air traffic controller have in common?

Navigating the dynamic airspace of political debates certainly requires knowledge, but also a deft hand, comparable to that of an air traffic controller.

As a moderator, my role goes beyond simply facilitating; it's about orchestrating a symphony of diverse voices all striving to be heard simultaneously. Just as air traffic controllers manage the flow of aircraft, ensuring safety and efficiency, I guide the discussion to prevent clashes (not of ideas) and ensure every point is clearly communicated and understood.

In every debate, my objective is clear: to maintain respect and order, respect timing, and ensure that every participant has the opportunity to convey their message effectively.

How do I do that? I read the debaters' body language, maintain eye contact, and let them know, "I saw you."

If I don't do that, it leads to confusion and frustration; not only among the debaters, but also among the audience and, by extension, the customer.

Dear Event and Communications Manager, the essence of a well-moderated debate lies in the precision of its execution. It's an art that, once mastered, enhances the quality of the discussion and improves audience engagement. This, of course, also applies to the many panel discussions I've moderated at numerous corporate and institutional events.

Shall we work together?
