Sylvester wins golden BEA award to commemorate 75 years of Liberation
Haacht, December 2, 2021 – The Belgian Event Awards (BEAs) were presented yesterday evening in the Nekkerhal in Mechelen. Each year, they award the most prestigious events in our country.
Event agency Sylvester took home a gold award in the institutional events category. “A fantastic recognition of the phenomenal efforts that the Sylvester team has made over the past two pandemic years and of their great flexibility and perseverance”, says Geert Vanoverschelde, CEO of Sylvester.
The previous edition of this high mass for the Belgian event sector was canceled due to the corona measures in force at the time. That meant that this year was a double celebration: in all categories – B2B, B2C, B2E and Institutional – a golden BEA award was presented for 2020 and a ditto series for 2021.
Golden BEA
The Golden BEA in the Institutional 2020 category went to one of the biggest Sylvester events of recent years: the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Antwerp during the Second World War. This event took place on September 7 and 8, 2019. At that time, among other things, a historic military parade and an impressive spectacle including projection on the town hall took place. No fewer than 160,000 visitors were part of this impressive commemoration with the baseline “Always free, never self-evident”.
Three Sylvester events in final round
But 75 years of liberation was not the only event for which Sylvester received high praise from the BEA jury. In addition, the event agency was selected with two other cases for the final round of the BEAs. The award show of the presentation of the Ultimas (the Flemish culture prizes) received a podium place in the Institutional 2021 category. With our own Think Hybrid event, in which Sylvester introduced the hybrid event format and explained it to the sector, we were a noted finalist in the B2B 2021 category. .
Resilience and innovation central
What had to be the festive highlight of a year of incredibly hard work last night at the BEA ceremony was overshadowed by the 'light lockdown' that our country has been in since last weekend and the new uncertainty that the sector will face in the coming days and weeks.
What also stood out, however, was the resilience and innovation that the event agencies displayed, two talents in which the Sylvester team also absolutely excelled over the past period.

Haacht, 2 december 2021 – Gisterenavond werden in de Nekkerhal in Mechelen de Belgian Event Awards (BEA’s) uitgereikt. Die bekronen jaarlijks de meest prestigieuze events van ons land.
Eventbureau Sylvester mocht een gouden award mee naar huis nemen in de categorie institutional events. “Een fantastische erkenning van de fenomenale inspanningen die het Sylvester-team de afgelopen twee pandemie-jaren heeft geleverd én van hun grote flexibiliteit en doorzettingsvermogen”, zegt Geert Vanoverschelde, CEO van Sylvester.
De vorige editie van deze hoogmis van de Belgische eventsector werd geannuleerd omwille van de toen heersende coronamaatregelen. Dat betekende dat het dit jaar dubbel feest was: in alle categorieën – B2B, B2C, B2E en Institutional – werd een gouden BEA-award uitgereikt voor 2020 én een dito reeks voor 2021.
Gouden BEA
De Gouden BEA in de categorie Institutional 2020 ging naar één van de grootste Sylvester events van de afgelopen jaren: de 75-jarige herdenking van de Antwerpse bevrijding tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Dit evenement vond plaats op 7 en 8 september 2019. Er heeft toen onder meer een historische militaire parade en een indrukwekkend spektakel inclusief projectie op het stadhuis plaatsgevonden. Maar liefst 160 000 bezoekers maakten deel uit van deze indrukwekkende herdenking met als baseline “Altijd vrij, nooit vanzelfsprekend”.
Drie Sylvester-events in finaleronde
Maar 75 jaar bevrijding was niet het enige event waarvoor Sylvester veel lof van de BEA jury ontving. Daarnaast werd het eventbureau nog met twee andere cases geselecteerd voor de finaleronde van de BEA’s. De awardshow van de uitreiking van de Ultimas (de Vlaamse cultuurprijzen) kreeg een podiumplaats in de categorie Institutioneel 2021. Met ons eigen Think Hybrid event, waarin Sylvester het hybride eventformat introduceerde en toelichtte aan de sector, was een opgemerkte finalist in de categorie B2B 2021.
Veerkracht en innovatie centraal
Wat gisterenavond op de BEA ceremonie het feestelijk hoogtepunt van een jaar ontzettend hard werken moest worden, werd overschaduwd door de ‘lichte lockdown’ waarin ons land sinds afgelopen weekend zit en de nieuwe onzekerheid die de sector tegemoet gaat de komende dagen en weken.
Wat echter ook opviel, was de veerkracht en innovatie die de eventbureaus tentoonspreidden, twee talenten waarin het Sylvester team ook absoluut uitblonk de afgelopen periode.
